At the 2011 Professional Development Institute awards were given to honor outstanding VATFACS members, Business and Industry, Administrators, and scholarship recipients. Visit the links to see this years winners and use the Awards and Scholarship links to learn how to apply for the coming year.

2011 VATFAC Scholarship Winners Announce

Each year, the Virginia Association for Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences provides scholarships for three worthy students.  Scholarship recipients are pursuing an education in Family and Consumer Sciences or in a Family and Consumer Sciences related field.

Laura Butcher  was awarded the Helen Hopper Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Laura has just finished her junior year at Bridgewater College. She will student teach in the spring of 2012 and plans on becoming a secondary Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.

Jessica McClean  was awarded the Martha Creighton Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.  Jessica is entering her junior year at Bridgewater College and will student teach in the fall of 2012. She plans on becoming a Family and Consumer Sciences Education teacher. Jessica has extensive experience with FCCLA which she will also bring to our profession.

Windi Turner  was awarded the Sharron K. Glasscock Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Windi is enrolled in the doctoral program for Career and Technical Education at Virginia Tech. Her career goal is to obtain a collegiate teaching position where she can apply her previous experiences and self-drive to contribute new ideas and innovative teaching methodologies that will inspire students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Career and Technical Education at a liberal arts college.
